Approach

The individual that walks into therapy or analysis is unique and the work undertaken should reflect that. Nevertheless I have been trained within the British Independent Psychoanalytic and the Jungian /post-Jungian traditions and know that these methods are tried and tested, indeed they are considered to be the origins of psychotherapy.

The work we will undertake will be exploring your life-story, your thoughts and feelings. Much of this will be done through you talking and us listening carefully to what you are saying and experiencing. I sometimes also encourage some patients to draw, use photography, write or use another non-spoken medium to explore their internal life.

I work with new patients only in face to face sessions (as opposed to phone or Skype). This is also my preferred method for therapy or analysis generally.

There is an initial period of 2-4 sessions of consultation and assessment where we decide if this is a good fit for us both and what would work best for you - long-term or brief work, and on frequency of sessions.

For people where psychoanalysis is suitable I work at a frequency of 3-5 sessions weekly. For people seeking psychotherapy I recommend a minimum of once weekly sessions.
For patients who have been working in person with me for several months I may also agree to Skype sessions.

Your mental health must above all be taken seriously and given the care and respect and that is a mutual commitment between patient and analyst.
